Alessandro Datti, PhD, Head, Scientific Operations.
Alessandro directs scientific operations and oversees the administrative and budgetary affairs of the Facility. He is directly involved in the development and optimization of assay methods in high-throughput formats, data analysis / interpretation and the definition of biochemical, secondary tests. Alessandro was trained as a biochemist at the University of Perugia (Italy), where he received a Doctorate degree for studies related to the biology of lysosomal enzymes. During postdoctoral training in Jim Dennis' lab at the SLRI, he worked on the biology of glycosyltransferases and the physiological and pathological relevance of certain glycosylation patterns in cancer and inflammation. The results of these studies were used to define some of scientific rationales pursued by GlycoDesign Inc., a Toronto-based biotechnology company focussed on the development of glycosyltransferase inhibitors for therapeutic applications. During a 7 year tenure at GlycoDesign, Alessandro was the Head of the Screening Laboratory prior to assuming the role of Project Leader, in which capacity he led a multidisciplinary team of 16 scientists. Alessandro's achievements in assay development and high-throughput screening are reflected by a number of publications, patents and trade secrets. |

Thomas Sun, B.A.Sc. EE., Robotic Systems Integration Specialist.
Thomas holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He performs robotic operations, assists with the development and validation of automated methods, and provides technical support (calibrations, alignments, diagnostic tests and troubleshooting) for the entire set of peripherals integrated with the robotic platforms. Additional competencies are directed to custom-designed projects which may require the development of software programs and electronic hardware, and the design of mechanical systems. |

Frederick S. Vizeacoumar, M.Sc. Comp. Sc., Research Associate, Lab Automation & Data Mining.
Frederick holds a Master degree in Computer Science. In addition to assisting with robotic operations and technical support for the lab instrumentation, Frederick is in charge of data management. He has developed software solutions for automated data capture, analysis, and storage, and established a networked database accessible by each user through this website. Frederick's expertise in computer science, statistics and bioinformatics is employed to accelerate data access and consolidation, evaluate the quality of screening efforts and thoroughly pinpoint relevant information. |
